Overview

Hepatopancreatobiliary surgery is a division of general surgery department. Emergence of specialized divisions arises out of the fact that general surgery covers a very wide range of diseases, knowledge has reached almost unmanageable size in each field and complexity of surgeries has gradually increased over the time. General Surgery is divided to breast-endocrinology, colorectal, gastrointestinal surgery, vascular, hepatopancreatobiliary (liver, bile ducts, pancreas) surgery divisions. Surgeons who wish to specialize in one of these divisions following General Surgery residency work at facilities that are experienced in these divisions and they focus their knowledge and skills on a specific issue. General surgery clinics are divided to divisions in a limited number of healthcare facilities also in our country.
